SUMMARY:Boyne Mountain\, Boyne Highlands and Bay Harbor.
DESCRIPTION:Hello fellow golfers… 🙂 While our trips to the UP have been outstanding\, I have had numerous requests to book an ‘Up North’ golf trip that isn’t quite so far so I have chosen Boyne. Boyne has a collection of 10 golf courses that can compete with any golf resort in the world. They have gotten more expensive the last few years but the golf packages are still a bargain considering what you get. \nI’m looking at the week of June 12\, 2023. I have obtained pricing for 4 rounds / 4 nights – $958.10 per person based on double occupancy… or 5 nights / rounds – $1113.94. This includes lodging\, golf\, carts and practice facilities. I should mention that the practice facilities are very good and unlimited range balls are always included. The price(s) also include surcharges to play the premium courses…Bay Harbor and Arthur Hills. One of the last ‘Shell Wide World of Golf’ episodes was shot at Bay Harbor and matched Phil Mickelson and Tom Lehman. For those of who who have played at my simulator…the large mural on the back wall is from Arthur Hills #13…a tee shot you will never forget! \nMy preference would be to stay at Boyne Highlands as Harbor Springs and Petoskey have more choices for dining. We can still include the courses at Boyne Mountain. Using West Bloomfield as a central starting location\, Bing Maps shows the drive to Boyne Highlands as 3:56 (3 hours and 56 minutes). \nIf you haven’t been on any of my previous golf trips here are the basics. I book 1 round per day…usually in the noon to 1:00pm time frame. This allows lazy mornings to sleep in\, explore or do whatever your heart desires. Also time to warm up prior to the round for those interested. We finish in plenty of time to go out for a nice dinner afterwards. On the last day I try to book earlier so people can hit the road at a decent hour. We generally dine VERY well but people are certainly free to do their own thing. As always…I go up a few days early to play some other courses in the area if anyone else is interested. \nOne last thing…this does NOT replace the UP golf trip. I will be scheduling that again (August 14-18 2023) for those interested. \nI will update as necessary. DESCRIPTION:Book of the Month:\n“The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2022”\nEditors: John Joseph Adams\, Rebecca Roanhorse \nThis month we are keeping a beloved Sci Fi Book Club tradition alive. For the eighth year in a row will be reading the newest edition of a short story collection called The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy. It has been a Club favorite each year and takes a good look at the current state of science fiction by highlighting some new and established writers in the genre. Each story has to meet certain criteria that you can read up on at the editor’s website and are chosen without the author’s name attached. \nStories are selected by John Joseph Adams and a new guest editor (this year is Rebecca Roanhorse\, best-selling author of the novel ‘Black Sun’. Roanhorse’s writing is often inspired by indigenous and ancient civilizations and has a doctorate from Yale in Federal Indian Law. She is an exciting new voice in the sci fi and fantasy space and I’m curious to see what she and Adams have in mind. \nPer usual\, I recommend coming back around to the Introduction by Roanhouse until you’ve read the stories\, it sometimes contains spoilers. The Preface is worth it\, for sure! It describes the selection process. \nLet us know in the Comments below which stories you like and feel free to skip one if you’re not digging it.
