SUMMARY:"City" Clifford D. Simak & "Sunfall" CJ Cherryh
DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone\, \nAfter a very lively poll\, two novellas took a big lead. This month\, we’ll be reading “City” by Clifford D. Simak and “Sunfall” by CJ Cherryh! Given that the total number of pages will be about 400\, we will take an extra week and meet on Sunday\, July 25th. \nCity (1952) – Clifford D. Simak \nIn a great piece by Openroadmedia\, “City” is described as an “…award-winning science fiction classic [that] explores a far-future world inhabited by intelligent canines who pass down the tales of their human forefathers…Winner of the International Fantasy Award\, City is a magnificent literary metropolis filled with an astonishing array of interlinked stories and structures—at once dystopian\, transcendent\, compassionate\, and visionary.”https://openroadmedia.com/ebook/city/9781504012942 \nWhile the dog-narrator piece is a bit risky\, I have faith in Simak. He is one of the greats\, let’s see what it has in store for us. \nYou can find free pdf’s and epub docs around the internet. I’m sure that some of your favorite book stores have old trade publications of this book and I encourage you to shop indie any time you can! That said\, you can also buy it via Amazon below:https://www.amazon.com/City-Clifford-D-Simak/dp/1504013034 \nSunfall (1981) – CJ Cherryh \nFrom Goodreads:Men had gone to the stars\, they had trod the soil of distant planets and settled their colonies; yet the homeworld of Earth remained…For every son or daughter who had departed for the stars…” there are those that still dream of the their mother Earth. \nC.J. Cherryh\, many honored author\, has produced in SUNFALL a book of marvels in which six mighty cities laden with the grandeur of history confront their fates… and those of the Earth-born who loved them. This is a truly unique work. \nYou can find “Sunfall” as a standalone paperback or as part of “The Collected Short Fiction of C.J. Cherryh”. It is also available out there on the web for free. Cherryh builds very believable alien civilizations and is good at setting characters loose in her worlds\, really looking forward to this. Below is the Amazon link for your reference:https://www.amazon.com/Sunfall-C-J-Cherryh/dp/0879978813 \nTo join a Book Club meeting\, all you will need is YOURSELF. If you haven’t had a chance to read one or either of these stories\, we still would love for you to join us in the discussion. Our Zoom meeting went very well this past Sunday\, we hope you’ll consider dropping in on anyway!
