Hi all,
Book of the Month:
“A Memory Called Empire” by Arkady Martine
Well, that was a resounding Book Club “yes!” for this month’s book! It started as a close call with “Slynx” but the 2020 Hugo and Nebula award-winning “A Memory Called Empire” took the lead and never looked back.
Called a “brilliant blend of cyberpunk, space opera, and political thriller” by ‘The Verge’, Empire is the story of an ambassador from a small, independent space station who gets embroiled in some galactic intrigue when she arrives in the imperial capital. The worldbuilding is supposed to be on-point and the characters well-developed.
There’s an interesting Q&A with Martine via NPR that gives some more insight into the writing of the book and the themes. It does have some spoilers so maybe hold off until you’ve read the book:

Finally, given that the third Sunday of June is Father’s Day and the fact that our book is over 400 pages, we’re pushing the meeting to the last Sunday of June.
Keep an eye out for a couple of movie nights in June, as well!
To join a Book Club meeting, all you will need is YOURSELF. If you haven’t had a chance to finish the book, we still would love for you to join us in the discussion. Our Webex meeting went very well this past Sunday, we hope you’ll consider dropping in on April 18th!
