“Old Man’s War” – John Scalzi

Hi everybody,

We’re looking forward to reading our second novel by John Scalzi. *Redshirts* was a fun romp with some big ideas. But five years earlier, Scalzi’s breakout novel won him the World Science Fiction Society’s John W. Campbell Award for best new writer for *Old Man’s War*.

Tor’s [Spoiler Free Impressions](https://www.tor.com/2017/06/15/a-spoiler-free-impression-of-john-scalzis-old-mans-war/) says it is a story “…about ordinary people grappling with extraordinary circumstances… [and that it] never insults readers’ intelligence.” Without spoiling anything, this story, Earth is a slum and traveling to interstellar space is one of the only ways out. It’s a sprawling story and we are super curious about where it goes!
